NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS/AP) -- Authorities have charged 12 people with running a drug ring partly out of the Rotunda Recreation Center in Newark where three of them worked. The group included alleged members of the G-Shine set of the Bloods street gang allegedly sold heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine.
During a news conference held on Wednesday Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, said the suspects stored and distributed the drugs at the recreation center.The three employees have been suspended by the city and there is no indication that drugs were sold to children at the center Baraka added.
Officials said the three under arrest are part-time employees and at least one had a prior drug record.
The City of Newark did not conduct background checks.
