NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The Holocaust Memorial Park in Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn was vandalized Friday.

Councilman Chaim Deutsch, whose district includes the memorial, notified the NYPD after he was informed of the desecration.

"I was notified that graffiti was discovered at the Holocaust Memorial Park in Sheepshead Bay," he tweeted. "It’s distressing that the sacred nature of the Holocaust Memorial, which brings comfort to survivors within our community, was disrespected."

The NYPD's 61st Precinct said in a tweet that it is working with the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation to investigate, and removing the graffiti will be done "ASAP"
