EDISON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A police officer was injured in a hit-and-run on Thursday morning in Edison.

Authorities say a student who was distraught over something had gotten into her car, ran over the officer in front of J.P. Stevens High School and then fled the scene.

"There was a 'conflict' that happened within the school that caused the student to leave the building, get into her car and take off and ended up in an accident with the school officer," Edison Township Superintendent Paul Saxton said.

The officer is being treated at the hospital for serious injuries, but is expected to survive.

Cops tracked down the student a short time after the incident and have taken her in for questioning.
