NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is hitting back at conservative critics who questioned her patriotism over comments she made in a promo for the TV show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
AOC will be a judge on the 12th season of the show. In a video promoting the new season Thursday, the congresswoman says: “I'm Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and I pledge allegiance to the drag.”
Critics, many of them in conservative media, were quick to pounce on AOC for her remarks. Among them was Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk.
“AOC is proud to 'pledge allegiance to the Drag,'” Kirk tweeted. “I wonder why she never claims to be proud to 'pledge allegiance to the Flag.'”
“AOC is going to be a guest judge on RuPaul's drag race this season,” The Blaze’s Nate Madden tweeted. “A sitting member of Congress: ‘I pledge allegiance to the drag.’”
Spectator USA contributor Stephen Miller quipped: “Time well spent in Congress.” He followed up with: “Guys I'm starting to think she doesn't want to actually legislate and is only using a congressional seat to boost a celebrity profile. Will investigate further and report back.”
Mark Dice, who advocates for Trump daily on Twitter, simply tweeted: “Degenerate Communist.”
“I just got cancer,” tweeted conservative Twitter personality Caleb Hull.
AOC responded to all the attacks with a famous line from RuPaul’s show: “They can go back to Party City.” She included a winking emoji and a rainbow pride flag.
AOC isn't the only big name guest hosting on RuPaul's show, among the others are Leslie Jones, Nicki Minaj, Jeff Goldblum, Thandie Newton and Whoopi Goldberg. The new season debuts Feb. 28 on VH1.
