NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 23-year-old man from New Jersey has been arrested and charged with murder for allegedly fleeing the scene of a wrong-way crash that killed a 32-year-old Staten Island woman in April, the NYPD said Thursday.
Tashawn Beckford, of Newark, was arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter, assault, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and grand larceny auto on Wednesday in connection with Christine Dahlstrom’s death, police said.
Beckford was driving a Lexus west in an eastbound lane on Arden Avenue on Staten Island around 8 p.m. on April 25 when he hit a Ford SUV that was traveling south on Annadale Road, the NYPD said.
Dahlstrom, who was riding in the back of the SUV, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The 35-year-old man driving the SUV was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, the NYPD said.
After Beckford hit the SUV, he crashed into a parked BMW, police said. He fled the scene on foot after the two crashes, the NYPD said.
Beckford’s attorney information wasn’t immediately available Thursday.
