Man arrested for assaulting woman after 8-hour standoff with police on Long Island

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Suffolk County Police arrested a man Sunday night after he assaulted a woman and barricaded himself in a house for approximately eight hours.Officials say on Saturday, April 25, 43-year-old Mark Reyes entered the home of a female acquaintance located on Clover Lane, in Kings Park and held the woman against her will overnight.

The 33-year-old woman was assaulted and sustained knife-wounds escaped the house at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Sunday and was taken to an area hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injures.

Two children who were in the house at the time of the incident were unharmed, police confirm.Reyes fled the house on foot and kicked in the back door of a nearby house, located at 106 Rumford Road, at approximately 9:35 a.m. Sunday according to officials.Authorities say a neighbor called 911 after seeing Reyes enter the home on Rumford Road.

Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Section officers and members of the hostage negotiation team responded to the scene and were able to enter the home and bring a 77-year-old female resident to safety while Reyes barricaded himself in an upstairs bathroom.

The woman was uninjured, police said.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., officers re-entered the home and removed Reyes from the house and transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries after suffering a self-inflicted knife wound.

Reyes faces several charges including criminal mischief fourth degree, criminal obstruction of breathing, two counts of unlawful imprisonment second degree, assault first degree, aggravated criminal contempt and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
