NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Brooklyn man has been arrested for allegedly choking and robbing two women, both in their 70s, in the lobbies of their Queens apartment buildings at the end of July and the beginning of August, the NYPD said Tuesday.

Richard Smalls, 58, of Sunset Park, was arrested and charged with two counts of robbery on Sunday, police said Tuesday.

Police say a 78-year-old woman was in the lobby of her building near Queens Boulevard and 67th Drive in Forest Hills around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 9 when Smalls went up to her and choked her.

Smalls then allegedly fled the building with several packages that had been lying in the lobby, the NYPD said. The woman was bruised and in pain after the attack, but refused medical attention, police said.

On July 28, meanwhile, a 72-year-old woman was in the lobby of her building near 98th Street and 64th Avenue in Rego Park around 12:30 p.m. when Smalls allegedly choked her and demanded her property, the NYPD said.

Smalls fled that lobby with the woman’s jewelry and cash, which were valued at around $500 in total, police said. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, according to police.

Smalls’ attorney information wasn’t immediately available Tuesday.
