Microsoft looking to buy TikTok as Trump flirts with banning it from US

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Microsoft is looking to buy TikTok's U.S. operations, despite the fact that President Donald Trump said he is thinking about banning the app from the U.S., according to a report.

Sources familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal Microsoft is “in talks” to acquire the Chinese-owned video app's U.S. operations.

Trump on Friday said his administration “may be banning TikTok,” over concerns that China could obtain American data from the app.

“We may be doing some other things, there are a couple of options,” he said. “But a lot of things are happening. So we’ll see what happens. We are looking at a lot of alternatives with respect to TikTok.”

Earlier this week, TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer said the company has “become the latest target, but we are not the enemy,” the Journal reported.
