Mother accused of leaving child, 2, in parked car at Bronx mall charged

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Queens mother that went shopping at a Bronx mall was arrested on Sunday, after leaving her 2-year-old child alone in a parked car, police say.

At approximately 3 p.m., officials say a witness contacted mall security after she noticed the girl in the parking garage at The Mall at Bay Plaza on Baychester Ave.

Officials broke the car's windows and got the girl out of the vehicle and was taken taken to Jacobi Medical Center for evaluation.

The outside temperature was about 40 degrees when the girl was found.Police arrested the mother, 35-year-old Mabel Cedeno, 35, when she returned to her vehicle.

Cedeno was charged with reckless endangerment and acting in a manner injurious to a child.It’s unclear why Cedeno left the child alone in the car, but officials say she was taken to Jacobi Medical Center for a psychological evaluation.
