NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Ditching bread as part of your carb-free diet but still have a hankering for a sandwich?
Then head to Elsie's in Haddon Township, New Jersey, where pickles are substitute bread. Its pickles sandwiches are lighting up social media, as its customers take to Instagram to show off their pickled meal.
The eatery opened in February and has uses a family pickle recipe that's been around since 1901.
'We are a sandwich shop but in lieu of bread, we use our Elsie signature pickle, or you can have any of our sandwiches constructed on a cucumber roll-up,' co-owner Katherine Cohen told Thrillist.
She continued, "So essentially we're a sandwich shop without bread ... So you bite into a sandwich and, instead of that soggy bread, you have that crisp, crunchy pickle."
Co-owner Chad Jordan added, "You think about every sandwich you've ever had, and it always comes with a pickle. Well, why not have a sandwich on a pickle?"
