NJ police finds 6-year-old sleeping in car stolen, abandoned by thief

NEWARK N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Newark police say a 6-year-old boy was found sleeping in the back seat of a car that had been stolen and then abandoned a few blocks away.The child’s mother left her 2018 Honda Accord running Thursday night when she dropped off a package in East Orange according to Newark Police.

Officials say the thief then hopped in and drove off, but abandoned the car near the corner of Hawthorne Avenue and 20th Street in Newark.The car was recovered minutes later by the Newark police, who found the boy still asleep.Police have not arrested the suspected thief but said he was last seen by residents running down Fabyan Place.Anyone with information on this crime was asked to call the Newark Police Department’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS.
