NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A day after the NYPD said it was investigating how a razor blade got into an officer’s deli sandwich in Queens, the head of the department said it was an accident.

“After a thorough investigation by NYPD detectives it’s been determined that the razor incident was indeed an accident,” Commissioner Demot Shea tweeted Saturday.

“Thankfully our officer or another customer wasn’t seriously injured. Appropriate agencies have been notified for follow up to ensure this never happens again,” Shea said.

On Friday, Shea posted a photo of the razor and the steak sandwich in question, writing that “the NYPD has ZERO tolerance for acts of violence against our police officers.”

The sandwich had been purchased at a deli on Beach 129 Street in Rockaway Park.

Shea said the officer suffered a mouth laceration after biting into the sandwich.

“He’ll be OK, but a full investigation into this abhorrent act is underway,” Shea tweeted at the time.
