NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Historic. Awesome. Huge. Instantly iconic. Powerful.
Those are just some of the adjectives that have been sprinkled across the Twittersphere to describe Time magazine's new cover with the words "First Family," emblazoned across a photo of Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg and his husband Chasten Buttigieg. An Afghanistan veteran, Pete is the first openly gay candidate to make a serious bid for the White House.
Pete, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, were photographed in front of their home there.
"The unlikely, untested and unprecedented campaign of Mayor of Pete Buttigieg," reads the cover.
"To some Americans, Buttigieg may just be the man to vanquish America’s demons," writes Time's Charlotte Alter.
Among those who praised the cover Democratic Coalition chairman Jon Cooper, who wrote, "US presidential hopeful 'Mayor Pete' and his husband Chasten Buttigieg made the cover of TIME. Regardless of which Democratic candidate you support for president, this is historic and awesome!"
Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci also gave the cover a thumbs-up, writing, "No matter the outcome of @TheDemocrats primary, Mayor @PeteButtigieg has already won for what he’s done for young #LGBTQ people across America. They’re now standing up a little taller and their dreams are a little bigger. #loveislove."
