NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Someone struck a high-pressure gas main in Brooklyn Monday, forcing residents to evacuate the area amid a reported heavy smell of gas.

Officials said the gas main was struck by workers at 47th Street and 12th Avenue in Borough Park around noon.

Residents reported a strong smell of gas.

Councilman Kalman Yeger says residents were evacuated from multiple buildings but were eventually allowed back.
