NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Thieves are targeting Revel scooters in New York City for their parts, the NYPD says.

In a tweet on Tuesday evening, the NYPD’s 77th Precinct, which covers parts of Crown Heights and Prospect Heights in Brooklyn, said Revel scooters “are being targeted for their parts, leaving them unusable for other customers.”

“If you happen to notice someone tampering with a (Revel) scooter, could you call us?” the precinct tweeted. “In case you lost our number, it’s 911.”

“If you see something, say something,” the precinct added.

The NYPD couldn’t say how many scooters have been targeted for their parts, the New York Post reported. It wasn't immediately clear where the thefts took place.

In a statement provided to the outlet, Revel said it wouldn’t tolerate the tampering.

“We work closely with the NYPD and precincts across New York City to address incidents involving the tampering of Revel mopeds,” Revel said. “Our work with local authorities, including the notice shared by the NYPD 77th Precinct on Twitter, aims to encourage community members to report any crimes they may see.”
