NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man in a parked car was killed by a falling tree in Queens and a woman in Brooklyn was injured by a falling branch at the height of the storm Tuesday afternoon, the NYPD said.

Mario Siles, 60, of East Harlem, was sitting in a Dodge van parked in front of 143-28 84th Drive in Briarwood, Queens around 1 p.m. on Tuesday when a tree fell onto the van, crushing the roof and pinning Siles inside, police said.

Siles was pronounced dead at the scene, the NYPD said.

"It's very, very sad," Mayor Bill de Blasio said of Siles' death in an interview with 1010 WINS Tuesday afternoon. "Apparently it was a very sudden situation."

A woman in Brownsville, Brooklyn, meanwhile, was critically hurt when a tree branch fell and hit her as she was walking on Dumont Avenue, the NYPD said. Her age wasn't immediately released.
