GLEN HEAD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A winning ticket in the first Mega Millions lottery drawing of 2019 was sold on Long Island.
The ticket, worth $425 million, is the eighth largest in Mega Millions history, according to the New York Lottery.
The winning numbers are 34, 44, 57, 62 and 70, with a Mega Ball of 14.
The ticket was sold at Brookville Auto Service Shop at 5050 Northern Blvd. on the border of Glen Head and Upper Brookville, but the winner has yet to come forward.
Second-prize tickets were sold in Canton, Little Neck and Pleasantville.
Jay Huang says he's owned the convenience store for about 10 years and that nothing like this has ever happened. In fact, when he saw all the TV news trucks parked outside he thought a crime had been committed.
Now he's simply thrilled, telling 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria that the news is "amazing."
Huang says that with the holidays the winner could be someone who was just passing through.
"Christmas and also New Year, you know a lot of party in this area," he said. "Maybe from different location... maybe from New Jersey. Maybe someone bought a ticket just for fun."
Now that the word is out, Huang says his shop will be considered a lucky spot and that should bring in more customers.
Lotto officials quickly put a huge sign in the window announcing that the winning ticket was sold there.
The last Mega Millions winner was the humongous $1.5 billion jackpot in South Carolina back in October.
