LAKEWOOD, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey police are investigating an apparent bias crime, after a pig was left on the doorstep of a rabbi's home over the weekend.
According to police, a small dead pig was found at the rabbi’s Lakewood home at about 7 a.m. Saturday, the Jewish sabbath.
Pigs are not kosher, which is why the incident is particularly offensive.
Investigators later determined the animal was left by someone between midnight and 7 a.m, and are investigating the incident as an apparent bias crime.
No note was attached to the frightening find, and no arrests have been made as of midday Monday.
There were no injuries to the unidentified rabbi or anyone else at the residence, officials said.
"This incident is beyond horrifying & should be condemned by all," the the Anti-Defamation League of New York/New Jersey wrote on Twitter. "We’re glad @Lakewood_PD is investigating as an 'apparent bias crime'. Please share any information with Law Enforcement so that those responsible can be aprehended."
