Man found dead wrapped in blanket, trash bags in East River was murdered: report

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The body of an unidentified man was found floating in the East River in Queens on Monday — and police believe he was murdered, according to a report.

NYPD’s Harbor Unit was notified of the body near 30th Road and Vernon Avenue in Astoria around 11:15 a.m. on Monday, the NYPD said Tuesday.

Police sources told the New York Post the man appeared to be between the age of 40 and 50 and likely died of blunt force trauma to the face and drowning.

His body was found wrapped in a blanket with duct tape and was transported to Astoria Ferry Terminal, where he was pronounced deceased by EMS, officials said.

The medical examiner will determine a cause of death, police said.

An investigation is ongoing.
