VIDEO: High winds across NY, NJ cause falling debris, downed trees, leave thousands without power

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- There were many reports of damage after high winds and severe storm weather made its way across parts of New York City and New Jersey overnight.

Pedestrians like Michael William wrote took to social media to share videos of the gusty winds. "Wow! Apparently I just survived my first NYC Tornado," he wrote.

"My first tornado warning in New York," Andrew Nazdin wrote.

Officials also blocked off several streets in Midtown due to falling debris.

FDNY were called to falling debris near 57th Street and 6th Avenue.

F Trains bypassed the 57th Srtreet stop in both directions over falling debris, officials said.

A video of sparking wires in New Jersey were shared on social media.

Downed trees were also reported.

Nearly 4,900 customers were without power in New York Monday morning.

Approximately 2,800 customers in Westchester County, 900 in the Bronx, over 130 in Queens and dozens in Brooklyn reportedly had no power, according to Con Edison.

PSEG reported 1,022 without power in Nassau County and 436 with no service in Suffolk County.
