Ex-Minneapolis officer charged in George Floyd's death released, posts $1M bond

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, charged in the May 25 death of George Floyd, was released from jail Wednesday after posting a $1 million bond.

Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter.

Chauvin's trial is expected to begin in March 2021.

Chauvin’s bond was set at $1.25 million (or $1 million with conditions) for allegedly killing Floyd with a knee to the neck while Floyd pleaded for his life in the case that sent shockwaves across the country and led to widespread protests.
