NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A New Jersey police officer was arrested and charged with cyber harassment for sending an 18-year-old woman sexually explicit messages after he arrested her during a traffic stop, prosecutors said.

Neptune City Police Department Officer Damien Broschart, 29, of Howell, arrested the teen on drug charges and several moving violations while conducting a traffic stop earlier this month, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said Thursday.

Hours later, Broschart — who was still on duty — texted the teen, saying he thought she was “cute” and wanted to “pay [her] back,” according to prosecutors.

He also sent her a string of sexually explicit messages and tried to meet her at her home at the end of his shift, prosecutors said. The teen, however, “refused and abruptly ended the communications” before blocking his number, the prosecutor’s office said in a release.

Undeterred, Broschart dialed her number three times from police headquarters and left her a message, prosecutors said.

Broschart was suspended without pay when the department learned about the incident, according to prosecutors. He has been charged with fourth-degree cyber harassment and third-degree hindering apprehension of oneself.

“Once the Neptune City Police Department learned of the allegations against Broschart, we acted immediately by launching an internal affairs investigation and contacting the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office,” Neptune City Police Chief Matthew Quagliato said in a statement.

“This type of behavior will not be tolerated, and has no place within the Neptune City Police Department, and the entire law enforcement community,” he added.

Broschart could face up to five years in state prison for the hindering apprehension charge, and up to 18 months in prison for the cyber harassment charge, prosecutors said.

His attorney didn’t immediately respond to request for comment Friday.
