NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A female U.S. Air Force veteran was among the four people who died Wednesday as Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, police said.
Police Chief Robert Contee said one of the fatalities was a woman who was shot by the U.S. Capitol Police as protesters tried to break through a barricaded door in the Capitol where police were armed on the other side. She was hospitalized with a gunshot wound and later died.
The woman was later identified as Ashli Babbitt of San Diego by her husband Aaron, according to KUSI. She was a 14-year veteran who served four tours with the U.S. Air Force. Her husband also said she was a Trump supporter.
Babbitt tweeted on Tuesday that she was heading to the nation's capital: "Nothing will stop us…. they can try and try and try but the storm is here and it is descending upon DC in less than 24 hours….dark to light."
Police Chief Contee said the three other fatalities died in "medical emergencies."
