Richard Neer: Jets' treatment of Sam Darnold 'like giving a reckless teenager a Mercedes'

Richard Neer is only on WFAN’s airwaves from 6-10 a.m. on Saturday mornings these days, but that hasn’t stopped him from weighing in on the topics at hand off air in the other 164 hours a week.

On Monday morning, Neer took to his Facebook page, as well as Twitter, to pop off a rant about how the Jets have ruined Sam Darnold. The Tweet:

And the Facebook post Neer links to? It says this:

“Adam Gase gives up play calling and for a third of the game, it works. Then four yards total offense in the second half. Contrast that with the Cards beating a very good Seattle team. Given the opportunity to make a late ten point comeback, they executed behind a second year QB.

It looks more and more like the Jets have ruined Sam Darnold. It's like giving a Mercedes to a reckless teen. Doesn't change the oil, no maintenance, drives carelessly and it becomes a lemon that nobody wants.

Nine games left to salvage the kid's career with NY, and if that fails, as is likely, give him the chance to succeed elsewhere. The Johnsons have no clue as to how to run a football team. Maybe Joe Douglas does. We can only hope.”
