Seeing the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile out and about is always an unexpected treat, but seeing it pulled over by the cops? Now that is a unicorn level event!
The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office took to Twitter to explain the incident that has Wisconsin abuzz today:
If you're curious what the Move Over Law (2001 WI Act 15, WI Statute 346.072) is, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, "If a motorist sees a vehicle on the side of the road with its emergency lights flashing (red, blue and amber), the motorist is required to move out of the lane closest to the vehicle if possible."
In this case, the Wienermobile driver was let off with a verbal warning; but if you were given a ticket, you could be issued three demerit points and a $249 fine. In more severe situations that result in an accident, your license could be suspended and jail time (up to 7 years) could occur.
So whether you're driving your personal vehicle or the company's Wienermobile, if you see a cop (or another emergency vehicle) with their cherries and berries going on the side of the road, move over or slow down! We're not all lucky enough to get just a verbal warning.
