ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A doctor in St. Louis is hoping to scare some people straight into wearing face masks when in public to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
"I don’t want to be the last person that looks in your frightened eyes," stated ICU Dr. Ken Remy of Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis. His video posted on Twitter has more than 43,000 views and 600 retweets.
He made a video that simulates what the last moments of a person's life could be like if they are dying from a COVID-19 infection.
"I promise you this is what your mother, or your father, or your children, when they get Covid disease, will see at the end of their life," Remy stated in the video. "This is serious. I beg you please practice the precautions to reduce transmission of Covid disease so that we can effectively prevent disease for you and your loved ones."
He told CNN that he has treated more than 1,000 COVID-19 patients and has had to intubate more than 100. He says what inspired him to make the video was some patients telling him they're not scared of the virus because of the relatively low death rate.
The coronavirus is killing around 0.6% of people it infects in the US, according to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington.
