Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has been continuously giving educated and reliable advice on the COVID-19 pandemic.
In April, the disease expert participated in a Zoom call to talk about the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Several celebrities partook in the conversation, including Kim Kardashian West, who organized the discussion, People reports.
Fauci, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, said the conversation included 36 musicians, celebrities, and athletes, including Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, 2 Chainz, Brad Falchuk, and more.
“It was a whole bunch of movie stars and some sports figures and they wanted to know about what they could do to stay safe, about wearing masks and avoiding crowds,” Fauci said. “I was impressed by the questions they asked, by their level of sophistication.”
Fauci shared that the Zoom call lasted an hour and said the celebrities who participated have “megaphones” and “could get the word out about staying safe.”
“Each of them has enormous numbers of followers on their social media accounts,” Fauci said. “I could say to them, for example, it’s important to wear a mask, and they get on their accounts and say ‘wear a mask’ and it goes out to an additional couple of million people.”
As COVID-19 cases continue to spike around the country, the number of people hospitalized with the novel virus is also setting new heights.
The Washington Post reported that the United States had set a new record for daily confirmed COVID-19 cases. Since the start of the pandemic, more than 104,000 new infections have been reported.
Also, 17 states, including Kansas, Tennessee, Virginia, Oklahoma, Montana, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio, Nebraska, Minnesota, Indiana, and West Virginia, reported a record number of hospitalizations.
