Once again, Thursday nights Verzuz battle did not disappoint, with the match-up of Rick Ross and 2 Chainz, and it being dubbed “the High Rollers Edition,” we would have expected nothing less.
Well over 200,000 viewers tuned in to catch the Instagram Live as two of Hip Hop’s most prolific rappers traded hits, made it rain, puffed on cigars, and Ricky Rozay even made some time to get a shoulder rub.
Round after round, each rapper came correct, dishing out bop after bop while sharing anecdotes along the way. Rick Ross serving up hits like “Hustlin," "Aston Martin Music” and “F***WithMeYouKnowIGotIt,” and 2 Chainz striking right back with smashes including"Bandz a Make Her Dance,” "Big Bank” and “F*****’ Problems.”
And that’s not all they shared, both rappers individually treated those of us listening at home with some new music. On his newest track “Money Maker,” 2 Chainz teams up with Lil Wayne, to give us some serious drumline vibes, as a tribute and shout out to HBCU band culture.
Ross also debuted a new jaunt, “Pinned to the Cross,” feating LA-based singer Finn Matthews. In the single, Ross made a few shoutouts of his own, addressing “Karens,” the BLM movement and even Dr.Dre’s divorce.
Since it’s origination, Verzuz has compiled quite the list of match-ups, including Jill Scott and Erika Badu, Nelly and Ludacris and Lil John versus T Pain. With each passing battle opponents bring all the smoke, while keeping praise flowing because when all is said and done, it’s all about the music.
