Billie Eilish and Gerard Way have never collaborated on a single. That may change with the help of a signature Fender ukulele.
The My Chemical Romance frontman posted a picture of his new Billie Eilish themed uke. Fender unveiled its project with the “my future” artist, tapping into an instrument Eilish has used to create music since childhood.
“So one of my friends, favorite people in the world, and patron of the arts, Michael Schulz, worked with his company @fender to collab with very cool musician @billieeilish on her rad looking and sounding ukulele,” Way captions alongside an IG post showing off the miniature axe.
Gerard even teased a possible single in the works. “I don’t normally play ukulele, but I did in fact recently write a song called ‘Ukulele Songs,’ which is about ukulele songs. I may share that. I’m not sure, but if I record it, I will use this ukulele.”
A collaboration between the artists is far from dubious. Billie has expressed fangirl vibes for MCR, including a, shall we say 'zealous', Instagram post upon the group’s 2019 reunion announcement.
But fans will need to exercise patience after her brother and producer FINNEAS revealed she will not release a new album until touring conditions are safe. “Billie’s album, and my album, they won’t be a bummer COVID record,” FINNEAS told Australian newspaper The Herald Sun. “I have a desperate desire not to release them during COVID-19. It’s the vaccine record! I want it to be the album everyone’s out dancing in the streets to.”
Meanwhile, Way has been busy working as executive producer on his Netflix series, Umbrella Academy. He wrote a new song for season 2, “Here Comes The End.” In April, he shared several demo tracks via SoundCloud, but the latest single is the first shared with the public this year.
