Jason Momoa says he was ‘completely in debt’ after ‘Game of Thrones’: 'I couldn't get work!'

Winter came pretty brutally for “Game of Thrones” alum Jason Momoa.

While he’s now a box office draw, the 41-year-old actor has revealed he was struggling financially after his character Khal Drago was killed off the HBO series in 2011.

“I mean, we were starving after Game of Thrones,” Momoa told InStyle. “I couldn’t get work. It’s very challenging when you have babies and you’re completely in debt.”

Momoa and wife Lisa Bonet share 13-year-old daughter Lola and 11-year-old son Nakoa-Wolf.

His luck turned when he was cast as Aquaman in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in 2016 and “Justice League” in 2017. His leading man status was further cemented in his standalone film “Aquaman” in 2018.

Prior to dominating the big screen and the Dothraki, Momoa got his first break as part of the ensemble cast of “Baywatch: Hawaii” in 1999.

At the time, Momoa didn’t have any Hollywood aspirations and went into the casting session with ulterior motives.

“So I went down with all my cousins,” he told the publication. “We just wanted to meet chicks. About 1,300 people showed up.”

After the series wrapped in 2001, Momoa moved to Los Angeles and found it hard to find his next role.

“I couldn’t even get an agent for three or four years,” he recounted.

With his financial and career hardships behind him, Momoa now has little time on his hands with a slew of projects in the works.

In addition to continuing his role on the second season of Apple TV’s “See,” he will star in the upcoming remake of “Dune,” an “Aquaman” sequel, and will voice the role of Frosty the Snowman in a live-action adaptation of the holiday classic.

It’s safe to say his success is the real thing and not just a Momoa mirage!
