Get ready to roll.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Chris Pine will be starring in Paramount and eOne's upcoming "Dungeons & Dragons" movie. The feature will be directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley - the duo who directed "Game Night."
The movie will be based off of a script written by Goldstein and Daley, based on a draft by Michael Gilio.
Details of the movie are being kept under wraps, but if it's anything like the fan favorite game, it will include war games, treasure hunts, long-lasting storylines, and a sense of camaraderie with friends.
The game involves humans, elves, orcs, and wizards. To play the game, participants must act as a character as they roll dice to complete quests and actions, moving them forward in the game.
Gameplay is overseen by a Dungeon Master, which is essentially another participant who controls the fate of characters in the game alongside a trusty set of dice.
The role-playing game, which comes from Hasbro, was the adapted in 2000 by New Line for a different film, which starred Jeremy Irons. This new film will be jointly produced and financed by Hasbro/eOne and Paramont.
Screen versions of the game Dungeons & Dragons have long been a battle, with parties taking the issue to courts over rights disputes for several years. Warner Bros has also tried their hand at a film.
According to Deadline, over 40 million people have played the game since its launch 46 years ago, including livestreams of games on YouTube and Twitch.
There are plans to start shooting the film in Belfast in the first quarter of next year, Deadline reports.
