FRISCO (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys attempted to acquire free agent safety Earl Thomas multiple times in 2018 but a deal never crossed the finish line. Thomas ultimately broke his leg a week after intercepting Dak Prescott twice, ending his season and trade discussions between Dallas and the Seattle Seahawks.
Jerry Jones will have another chance to bring Thomas aboard this offseason as he's free to sign with any team, barring the Seahawks placing the franchise tag on him.
Sources close to the situation tell 105.3 The Fan that the Cowboys have already begun in house discussions on how to best pursue the all-pro free agent safety.
Cowboys owner Jones won't confirm that - and can't, as the NFL free agency window doesn't open until March 13 at 3 pm CT.
Said Jones on Tuesday while overseeing a boxing promotion event at AT&T Stadium when asked about the Cowboys having discussions about the safety position in free agency: "Yes. But that's about all I'll say.''
