DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys added a major piece to their defense on Wednesday, signing star pass rusher Everson Griffen to a one-year deal.

The #Cowboys are adding a big-time pass-rusher, signing former #Vikings DE Everson Griffen, sources tell me, @TomPelissero and @SlaterNFL. With Minnesota for a decade, Griffen now heads to Dallas. A surprise.

With uncertainty surrounding the pass-rushing situation outside of Demarcus Lawrence, first-year head coach Mike McCarthy was able to solidify that area of the defense and make a major splash just weeks before the start of the season.

The 32-year-old was already familiar with his new head coach and his defensive style as well, having played against McCarthy's Packers for nine of his 10 seasons in the NFL.

A four-time Pro Bowler, Griffen has been recognized as one of the top pass rushers in all of the NFL throughout his 10-year career, amassing 74.5 sacks and 86 tackles for loss over that time.

Griffen also had 355 total tackles, to go along with nine forced fumbles, 26 pass deflections, and 176 quarterback hits throughout his time with the Vikings.

The veteran now joins a defensive line room that includes the aforementioned Lawrence, Aldon Smith, Gerald McCoy, Dontari Poe, Tyrone Crawford, Dorance Armstrong, as well rookies Bradlee Anae and Neville Gallimore, that figures to be one of the top defensive line units in the league.
