Rangers Remove Leclerc From Closer's Role Temporarily

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Chris Woodward has made the decision to temporarily remove Jose Leclerc from the closer's role after he blew his second save opportunity Tuesday.

Seems like the Jose Leclerc will be used in a role outside of the closer's role so the Rangers can help him get right. Certainly don't think this is the end of him as a closer longterm, but likely for the near future so he can get back on track.

Woodward indicated to reporters this morning including our own Jared Sandler that they will use Leclerc in other situations to get him right.

Based on Woodward's comments, this isn't the end of Leclerc's time as the closer, just a needed break.

"We are going to look at taking him out for a while for his sake," Woodward said, via Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. "We've talked. I told him there is going to come a time when we are pouring champagne on our heads and it will be because of you closing it out.

"The guy works harder than anybody," Woodward said. "He cares. He's conscientious. It's beautiful. But to see this, it rips your heart out. In the end, he'll be better for it, but now it's a bad feeling because it feels like there is no way out."

Leclerc is 1-1 with an 8.44 ERA and a 2.156 WHIP in 13 appearances.
