Weatherford is the Peach Capital of Texas. And that's not just an unofficial nickname, that's based on an official proclamation by the Texas Legislature.
There are several farms in the area that produce huge crops of the sweet fruit every year.
So, every summer, Weatherford puts on a huge party celebrating the peach with the Parker County Peach Festival. It's the county's biggest event. Last year, Weatherford hosted more than 60,000 at the enormous one-day event.
COVID-19 wouldn't allow those type of large gatherings in the summer of 2020, so the town pivoted to spread the events over a whole week.
Parker County Peach Week included a peach cooking competition, a peachy painting class, great treats like peach ice cream, peach donuts, peach gelato, peach soda, and peach cotton candy. A local care dealership even hosted a Peach Pit Toss Corn Hole tournament.
COVID-19 couldn't dampen Weatherford's enthusiasm for peaches. The big one-day Parker County Peach Festival will be back next summer, Saturday, July 10, 2021.
