DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys didn't exactly promote from within, after all.

Hours after team owner Jerry Jones indicated on 105.3 The Fan that they'll "more than likely" address their recent rash of injuries from within the organization, the Cowboys went out and plucked two players off other teams' practice squads.

Dallas announced Tuesday afternoon that they had placed offensive lineman Cam Erving, tight end Blake Jarwin and linebacker Leighton Vander Esch on injured reserve. Taking their place will be offensive tackle Alex Light, who was signed off of the Arizona Cardinals practice squad, and linebacker Rashad Smith, who was brought in off of the Chicago Bears practice squad.

Dallas also elevated Brandon Carr off of their own practice squad when they signed him to a deal Tuesday.

Light, 24, appeared in 13 games last season with the Green Bay Packers. He was signed by the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Richmond in 2018.

Smith, 23, was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic in April. He was the Defensive MVP of the 2019 Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl game.
