Eagles Hosting Former Falcons Star RB Devonta Freeman

Dating back to this past offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles have been connected quite a bit to free-agent running back Devonta Freeman. It appears things could be heating up between the two sides.

SportsRadio 94 WIP's Eliot Shorr-Parks says that Freeman will be visiting the Eagles next week. Freeman told Josina Anderson earlier this week that he had four suitors who he was considering signing with.

Second-year back Miles Sanders said Friday that he expects to return for the Eagles' Week 2 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday after missing Week 1 with a hamstring injury. Whether Freeman is ultimately signed or not, Sanders will be the lead back.

That said, in Sanders' absence in Week 1, the Eagles handed the ball to the duo of Boston Scott and Corey Clement just 15 combined times. Whether it's insurance for if Sanders were to reaggravate his hamstring injury or just an attempt to upgrade the No. 2 running back spot, there's seemingly room for a health Freeman.

Staying healthy, though, hasn't been easy for Freeman. The two-time Pro Bowler hasn't played in 16 games since 2016, dealing with multiple concussions, along with groin, knee and foot injuries. Freeman has rushed for 3,972 yards in six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, but his days as a lead back are likely numbered. Perhaps he could be of value in a lesser role.
