Rangers Activate Willie Calhoun, Recall RHP DeMarcus Evans


DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Texas Rangers have activated outfielder Willie Calhoun from the 10-day injured list and have optioned outfielder Scott Heineman to the club's alternate site.

Calhoun was placed on the injured list on Aug. 20 with a left hamstring strain. He is in the starting lineup for tonight's series opener vs the Astros.

Calhoun is hitting .172 with 8 RBI in 18 games for the Rangers this season.

Evans, 23, will make his major league debut when he enters a game. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound right-hander threw 5.1 scoreless innings in six "A" games during the club's original spring training. He also appeared in four instrasquad games during Summer Camp, allowing 2 runs in 3 innings of work.

Evans went 13-11 with a 2.53 ERA in 125 appearances in the minor leagues. He's never appeared in a game above Double-A.

Evans will take right-hander Luis Garcia' spot on the active roster after he was designated for assignment Tuesday.
