The PGA’s second major of 2020 will be contested this week at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York, located some 20 miles north of Manhattan in Westchester County. The U.S. Open was last held at Winged Foot in 2006, when Phil Mickelson famously squandered a 54-hole lead to Geoff Ogilvy (in what would be his only major victory), falling by a single stroke after posting a brutal double-bogey on the Par-4 18th hole.

The U.S. Open, previously scheduled for June, comes a month after Collin Morikawa—in just his second year on tour—lapped the field with an emphatic victory at the PGA Championship for his first career major. The 23-year-old Cal-Berkeley alum will tee off Thursday alongside world No. 4 Justin Thomas and three-time US Open-winner Tiger Woods, who missed the cut in his last visit to Winged Foot 14 years ago. Other names of interest include Dustin Johnson, fresh off last week’s FedEx Cup triumph, and defending champ Gary Woodland, who defeated runner-up Brooks Koepka (not competing this week due to a knee injury) to claim last year’s title at Pebble Beach. Johnson headlines a stacked group teeing off at 1:16 PM, joining the likes of Tony Finau (seven top 10s in 2020) and headline-grabbing Bryson DeChambeau, known for his booming drives and eccentric personality.

In total, 27 countries will be represented among the 144-player field including 10 former champions and 13 amateurs. The favorite depends on what sportsbook you prefer, but if you’re placing your bets on FanDuel, Johnson is +850 to win with Jon Rahm right behind at +1000.

The forecast looks promising with little chance of precipitation and expected temperatures in the mid to high 60s throughout the week. Thursday will be slightly warmer with a high of 78. The 7,264-yard Par 70 course is considered among the toughest in golf with six of the past eight winners at Winged Foot finishing above par.

Coverage will air on Golf Channel from 7:30 AM-2 PM ET Thursday, 9:30 AM-4 PM Friday and 10 AM-12 PM Sunday with most of the afternoon slate falling on NBC’s shoulders (2-5 PM Thursday, 4-7 PM Friday, 11 AM-7 PM Saturday and 12-6 PM Sunday).
