Seavey has been charged with one count of a Violation of the South Carolina Explosives Control Act – 1st Offense.

At this time, Seavey remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center on a $100,000 surety bond.

A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division responded to a suspicious persons call at Lake Becky in Mountain Rest around 5:36am yesterday.

The call for service was based on reports of people walking around houses with flashlights.

Based upon information obtained by the Sheriff’s Office, the deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that left the scene, a Jeep Cherokee with an out of state tag, on Highlands Highway at Rustic Trail in Mountain Rest.

The deputy, upon making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, smelled an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

After removing the occupants from the vehicle, the deputy was informed by Seavey of drug paraphernalia inside of the vehicle.

As the vehicle was being searched, the deputy located a cylinder type object with a fuse attached to it inside the vehicle.

The Anderson County Bomb Squad was notified and arrived on the scene.

After conducting an investigation on the device, the deputy was advised by the Bomb Squad that the object was an improvised explosive device that contained a charge inside of it.

The Bomb Squad took possession of the device and Seavey was placed under arrest and transported to the Oconee County Detention Center.

The vehicle was towed away from the scene.

Based upon evidence obtained during the investigation, the deputy secured an arrest warrant against Seavey.

Two other occupants of the vehicle were also arrested on unrelated charges and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center Monday.

27 year old Tiffani Paige Matthews of Central, who was the driver of the vehicle, was arrested on a Magistrates Bench Warrant.

30 year old Ellis Aaron Mathis of West Union was arrested on a Family Court Bench.

A fourth occupant, a white female, was released from the scene.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
