(Walhalla, SC)------------------------------------The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is announcing today the arrest of a Westminster man and an Anderson woman on charges of Drug Trafficking.
32 year old Dustin Allen Cox of Westminster Highway and 37 year old Angela Denise Lewis of Fants Grove Road were booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 6:05pm yesterday and 4:02am this morning respectively.
Late yesterday morning, Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division responded to an address on Westminster Highway near Walhalla regarding an investigation into a stolen vehicle, a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Investigators had also received information that a white Dodge Pickup on the property was reportedly stolen as well. Investigators observed that truck on the property and when Investigators arrived on scene, they observed a male on the property with a dark in color book bag. When Investigators made contact with the male, identified as Dustin Cox, the book bag was no longer in his possession.
A check of the license plate on the Dodge Pickup revealed that the tag was registered to another vehicle. Based on the facts and evidence gathered on scene, Investigators obtained a search warrant. Based upon the execution of the search warrant, Investigators were able to determine that the 2019 white Dodge Pickup was stolen out of Oklahoma. A search of the book bag discarded on the property revealed a quantity of narcotics inside. Investigators also discovered a handgun on the person of Cox as well.
Cox was placed under arrest and transported to the Oconee County Detention Center where he was booked in on a Temporary Custody Order until arrest warrants were obtained today charging him with one count each of Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Trafficking in Heroin, Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime.
Also arrested at the incident scene was Lewis, who had two outstanding warrants on charges of Trafficking in Methamphetamine from last year. Lewis remains in custody at this time at the Oconee County Detention Center on a combined $300,000 surety bond. A hold has also been placed on Lewis by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. Lewis will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device as a condition of bond should she be released.
At this time, Cox remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center on a combined $445,000 surety bond.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
