The Travelers Rest City Council will be voting today on a mixed use development project that will sit on a 40 acre parcel between Main Street and Highway 25 in downtown Travelers Rest. Part of that area right now is where a former textile plant is located; an abandoned building that many call an eyesore.
The development will feature 100-single family homes, 250 apartments close to the Main Street side and some 77,000 square feet for commercial office space closer to Highway 25, across from the Walmart. Third floor space will be limited as to not block views of Paris Mountain and no drive-through style restaurants will be allowed.
Plans also show a walking/biking greenway, dog park, central park, pavilion, pool and outdoor fitness area. The developer, Jeff Randolph of The Randolph Group, says that over a quarter of the entire project would be open space and it will promote walkability, especially to downtown TR and the popular Swamp Rabbit Trail.
