Nick Dini and Daniel Tillo test positive for Covid-19

(610 Sports)  According to the Royals, catcher Nick Dini and left-handed pitcher Daniel Tillo have both tested positive for Covid-19. Both players gave the team permission to release their names and both are reported to be asymptomatic.

Dini, a 14th round selection for the club out of Wagner University in 2015, is the third Royals catcher to tested positive for the Coronavirus, joining Salvador Perez and Cam Gallagher. He was expected to compete for the backup catcher job and make the major league roster behind Salvador Perez, who was clear and rejoined the team earlier this week.

Tillo, a 3rd round draft pick for the Royals out of Iowas Western CC in 2017, was considered a long-shot to make the club but had an impressive performance in the Arizona Fall League that made the coaching staff take notice. Unfortunately for Tillo, an MRI today revealed damage to his ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow, which generally requires Tommy John surgery and would put him on the shelf for the year. Tillo is awaiting a second opinion on the injury.
