PECOTA projects 71 wins for the Royals

(610 Sports) -- Today is the day, PECOTA projections day that is. A day where algorithms and simulations project the win/loss records for every MLB team, sending fans across the country into a tizzy.

Baseball Prospectus released the annual PECOTA projections, which have the Kansas City Royals winning 71 games, that's basically on par with what the team was on pace to win in the truncated 2020 MLB season.

The exact projection for the Royals was 70.8 wins, which would slot them to finish fourth in the division, behind Minnesota (90.6), Cleveland (85.7) and Chicago (83.1). According to PECOTA, the Royals have 0.6% chance of winning the American League Central. Kansas City finished fourth in the division in 2020 but the additions of switch-hitting first baseman Carlos Santana and starting pitcher Mike Minor, has the club feeling optimistic and primed to make a splash in 2021.

PECOTA is projecting the Los Angeles Dodgers to finish with an MLB-best 103 wins in the 2021 season.
