(670 The Score) It appears the Cardinals are nearing a return to game action amid their coronavirus outbreak, but it won't be soon enough to begin their series at the White Sox on time.

The Cardinals-White Sox game set to be played at Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday evening will be postponed, USA Today and the New York Post both reported. The Cardinals haven't played a game since July 29 due to a large number of positive coronavirus tests among their players and staffers.

MLB's hope is that the Cardinals at White Sox can play a doubleheader Saturday and finish the three-game series Sunday, according to reports. The Cardinals plan to travel to Chicago on Friday, pending their latest coronavirus test results, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

The Cardinals and White Sox had been scheduled to play at the "Field of Dreams" site in Dyersville, Iowa on Thursday, but MLB called that game off due to logistical and health concerns. The White Sox are set to play in the "Field of Dreams" game in 2021.

The Cardinals are 2-3 this season. The White Sox are 10-9 and sit in a third-place tie in the AL Central.
