Coach Matt Nagy indicated again Friday afternoon that the Bears believe Smith suffered a serious injury.
"It doesn't look good," Nagy said. "But we have some time here to get more information on him."
Smith suffered the pectoral injury on the first drive, walking off the field in apparent pain after Ezekiel Elliott's two-yard touchdown. It wasn't clear exactly when the injury occurred. The Bears evaluated Smith briefly on the sidelines before sending him to the locker room. He didn't return to the game.
The Bears quickly ruled out Smith from action, an initial sign the injury was serious. The team is off this weekend before regrouping at Halas Hall on Monday in preparation for a game at Green Bay on Dec. 15.
Bears receiver Javon Wims also exited Thursday early due to a knee injury, and the team is still evaluating his status. Wims has 12 catches this season. Defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris left Soldier Field with his left foot in a walking boot. His status was also unclear Friday afternoon.
