The app was formed in partnership with Rush Street Interactive, bringing a sportsbook to mobile phones across the state. It marks a new day for sports wagering in Illinois, Rush Street Interactive president Richard Schwartz said on the Joe Ostrowski Show on Thursday evening.
"This world has changed in the last three months, and no one could've ever imagined things would go the way they did, but we're glad to be up and running," Schwartz said. "Clearly, it's a good time with the U.S. and international sports returning to action. It's a good time to be launching and be able to sort of capture the momentum that we're starting to see as more sports return."
Rivers Casino officially opened doors to the first sportsbook in Illinois on March 9 -- just days before the coronavirus pandemic forced most American sports to shut down and the casino itself to temporarily close.
The BetRivers app will allow wagering on the sports that are operating right now during the pandemic, including the PGA Tour, horse racing and international sports.
