Bulls' Patrick Williams, Otto Porter Jr. out against Rockets

Williams has a hip contusion, while Porter has back tightness.

(670 The Score) The Bulls will be without starting forward Patrick Williams (hip) and reserve forward Otto Porter Jr. (back) when they host the Rockets on Monday evening. Wing Garrett Temple will start in Williams’ place.

The rookie Williams suffered a hip contusion in the Bulls’ win against the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. He was initially listed as probable to play in the first injury report of the day, then downgraded to questionable later. The Bulls ruled him out a little more than a half-hour before game time after he went through warmups.

It will mark the first missed game of Williams’ career. He’s averaging 10.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 26.9 minutes a game.

Porter has been dealing with lower back stiffness since the Bulls’ loss to the Lakers on Jan. 8. He’s sitting out Monday in part for precautionary reasons, with coach Billy Donovan saying Porter was “feeling fine.”

“We just wanted to be a little cautious with him certainly with the number of minutes he has absorbed on the road trip,” Donovan said.

Porter is averaging 12.5 points and 6.7 rebounds in 23.6 minutes per game off the bench.

The Bulls will also be without guard Tomas Satoransky and forward Chandler Hutchison, who are working their way through the NBA protocols still after contracting and recovering from COVID-19.
