(670 The Score) Catcher Austin Romine and the Cubs have agreed on a one-year, $1.5-million deal, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. The deal is pending a physical.
Romine, 32, is a nine-year MLB veteran who hit .238 with two homers, 17 RBIs and a .582 OPS in 37 games for the Tigers in the shortened 2020 season. Prior to that, Romine had played for the Yankees since 2011.
Romine has hit .239 with a .639 OPS in his career. For now, he projects to be the Cubs’ backup catcher behind Willson Contreras, who has landed in trade speculation this offseason.
