Browns DE Myles Garrett returns to practice Friday, “ready to go” against Raiders

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Browns defensive end Myles Garrett returned to practice Friday and head coach Kevin Stefanski expects him to play Sunday against the Raiders.

“He’s ready to go,” Stefanski said.

Garrett took a couple of plays off during practice according to Stefanski, but Garrett’s workload should not be limited Sunday.

“It’s doing alright,” Garrett said of the sore ankle. “I’m getting old. Just trying to take my time when I can.”

Garrett suffered the injury leading up to last week's 37-34 win over the Bengals and tweaked it during the game.

“I tweaked it twice so I needed some time to get right,” Garrett said.

Garrett, who was named AFC Defensive Player of the Month for October, leads the NFL with 9.0 sacks his season and he’s recorded a sack in six straight games.

“I appreciate it, recognition is nice,” Garrett said. “Can’t let it get to me or allow me to get passive or apathetic about what’s going on. I’ve got to stay passionate about the performance the entire defense is putting out there, not just me.”

He's also tied for the league lead with four forced fumbles, all coming off strip-sacks this season.

Since 1982, four players have 40 or more sacks in their first 45 career games: Reggie White, Derrick Thomas, Aldon Smith and Von Miller. Garrett, who has 39.5 career sacks, is a half sack away from joining that exclusive club.

Waiver claim – The Browns added some help to their linebacker corps Friday.

The team was awarded linebacker Elijah Lee off waivers from Detroit.

Originally a seventh-round pick by Minnesota in 2017, Lee has appeared in 42 career games with the 49ers (2017-19) and Lions (2020). He has recorded 67 tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles on defense and has 10 career special teams tackles.

He appeared in four games as a reserve this season with the Lions prior to being waived.

The Browns have received a roster exemption for Lee that will expire once he is permitted to join the team in accordance with testing protocols. He will not count against the Active Roster Limit until that time.
